WESLEYAN COLLEGE PROJECT AWARDED HIGH-LEVEL LEED CERTIFICATION

On May 18, 2011, Wesleyan College’s Taylor Hall renovation project received LEED NCv2009 Gold Certification. Before the project's inception, Wesleyan College set basic LEED Certification as a major project goal, and along the way the goal changed to LEED Silver Level Certification. Thanks to the hard work of all team members, the project has exceeded both these set goals to achieve Gold Level status.

LEED is a program that rates building projects, both new construction and renovations, according to their environmental viability.  There are construction criteria in five categories (Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality) to meet for the certification process, and each criterion is awarded points for the methods used achieve it.  The design itself is awarded points in a sixth rating category (Innovation in Design).

Of a possible 100 awardable points, projects are evaluated and rated in four levels:

Certified 40–49 points
Silver 50–59 points
Gold 60–79 points
Platinum 80 points and above

As the construction industry moves more and more toward green construction, Chris R. Sheridan & Co. team members are working to stay on top of all developments.  LEED Certification is an important indicator of movement in the right direction.
