Phase II Construction Commences on 1st UMC of Thomaston

Phase II construction has begun on the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston, Georgia.

Whereas Phase I construction consisted of renovations to the exterior envelope of the campus buildings, Phase II will consist of interior renovations and repairs to the second story of the educational building which recently suffered fire damage.

Church officers stated that Chris R. Sheridan Company is their contractor of choice for this and all future work because of the company's commitment to the highest standards of quality and its efforts in keeping construction costs in line with their expectations.

Phase I construction is continuing with the completion of the roof replacement and limestone steeple refurbishment. The glazers have developed a system of window glazing repair working with the architect and conservators to identify a specific custom glazing formula that will further extend the longevity of the Church’s historic wood window sashes.

Phase II work has started with the cleaning, and plaster repairs to the Sanctuary. Painting conservators have researched to identify the original paint colors for the Sanctuary and are working with the Architect and Owner to determine the colors for the new paint work.

The First United Methodist Church of Thomaston was originally constructed in 1959.  The structure was so well-constructed that very little maintenance has been required since completion of initial construction.  Church trustees stress the need for a continuation of these building standards and commitment to quality; they understand, as Chris R. Sheridan does, that first-quality materials and craftsmanship extend the longevity of their beloved church.
