UPSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER EXPANDS

Chris R. Sheridan & Co. has been selected to expand and renovate the kitchen/dining facilities at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston, Georgia. Chris R. Sheridan & Co., one of the ten pre-qualified bidders, submitted a Lump Sum Bid for the construction to progress to the final interview stage with succeeding award of the project.

The existing 6,300 square foot area to be renovated currently occupies physical therapy, exam, and ancillary space on the first floor at the rear of the facility. An L-shaped 4,500 square foot addition will be added adjacent to the renovated space to provide dining and kitchen services.

Two major challenges of the project will be to completely replace two major air handling units which currently serve Central Services and Ancillary Spaces on the first floor of the facility. The other major challenge is all of the facilities’ operating rooms are located directly above the renovated space, necessitating minimal service shutdown as well as noise and sound interruptions.

This project is a complete kitchen and dining facilities replacement project for Upson Regional Medical Center. The facility will begin an entirely new concept in serving the visitors by changing to a “station concept”. A “made-to-order deli”, grill, upscale salad bar as well as typical serving facility will be highlighted in the new design.

The dining facilities will provide a much needed “open effect” with the addition of one complete wall of the dining facility built as a curtain wall to let in natural light. The upscale finishes inside the dining facility will showcase cherry paneling, marble and glass. The 150-person dining facility will be accomplished through a combination of booth, banquet, counter and individual tables. A two line register island will accelerate patrons through the checkout process.

This is Chris R. Sheridan & Co.’s first project at Upson Regional Medical Center. Construction Management Services will be provided by Sodexo, Mr. Chuck Slye, National Projects Director. Chris R. Sheridan & Co.’s construction team consists of G. W. Franklin, Project Superintendent and Richard Cazort, Project Manager.

Project Start is June 29, 2009, with a ten-month project duration.
