Goodwill Expands to Lake Joy Road in Houston County, Georgia

New Local Goodwill store to make significant economic impact on the Lake Joy area

On October 27, 2011, Goodwill of Middle GA celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Goodwill Career Center at Lake Joy Road and Highway 96, the site of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia’s 13th upscale retail training store. Goodwill senior managers, Chamber of Commerce representatives, and community dignitaries were present for the groundbreaking ceremony.

The three acre property will be the site of a 21,500 square foot facility to be built by Chris R. Sheridan & Co. with SP Design Group of Macon serving as architects. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and be complete in late spring with a grand opening to follow.

Last year alone 79,900 donors in Houston County donated approximately 3,196,000 lbs of material to Goodwill. The subsequent sale of that material resulted in the equivalent of 53 tractor trailer loads of material being kept out of local landfills.

Over the past year, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia has placed 2,221 people into jobs and offered career development services to over 10,000 individuals. Over the past five years, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia has placed 6,802 people in jobs, creating more than $166 million in new payroll purchasing power.

Providing education, skills training, and placement services for individuals with barriers to employment is only possible through the generous support received by Goodwill from the local community. With that philanthropic investment and donations of clothing and household items to our stores, Goodwill will continue to expand the mission-based programs that help people find jobs and the programs that ultimately contribute to both human and economic development.

Chris R. Sheridan & Co. is honored to have been chosen to build the new facility and to have a chance to support the goals of Goodwill Industries.
